During the discussions, the ADEPT team presented an in-depth analysis of the legal and institutional framework governing elections in the autonomy, highlighting recent developments and the areas where additional clarification of institutional mandates is needed. Among other aspects, we emphasized the importance of a Permanent Electoral Commission, its cooperation with the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, as well as the need to harmonize local regulations with the new national Electoral Code, including those related to the financing of electoral campaigns.

 

The event also featured the participation of Mr. Pavel Postică, Deputy Chair of the Central Electoral Commission, who answered questions from journalists about the electoral calendar, the procedural steps ahead, the integration of the Gagauz Electoral Commission within the national electoral architecture, and its functioning in the context of recent legislative changes.
