The final session of the 2025 edition of the School of Local Elected Officials took place on 19–20 December 2025. The program brought together 42 local elected officials—19 mayors and 23 councillors—from 32 localities across the Republic of Moldova. The 2025 edition was supported by 34 training sessions, totaling 75 hours of training and 377 hours of applied mentoring, delivered by 15 trainers and 3 mentors.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Moldova commended the active engagement of local elected officials in the training process and their openness to the reforms necessary for the modernization of local public administration.

“The Republic of Moldova is on a clear European path, and this journey cannot be completed without strong, professional local administrations that are close to citizens. Investing in people and in their capacity to understand and implement reforms is essential,” the diplomat emphasized.

In turn, project coordinator Grigore Stăgărescu highlighted the scale and impact of the School of Local Elected Officials program, noting that it has reached more than 15 editions nationwide, with over 800 graduates—mayors, deputy mayors, local councillors, and public servants. According to him, over the years the program has contributed to the development of an active network of local elected officials who apply the knowledge acquired in practice and initiate concrete community development projects.

During the final session of the School of Local Elected Officials, participants addressed two key topics for the reform of local public administration: the voluntary amalgamation of administrative-territorial units and the digital transformation of public services. Discussions focused on the need to strengthen the administrative capacity of local authorities, increase institutional efficiency, and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

The session also included an applied segment in which local elected officials analyzed examples of the use of digital solutions in the day-to-day activity of public administration, highlighting their potential to reduce bureaucracy, processing time, and administrative costs, as well as to increase the transparency and accessibility of public services, especially for citizens in rural areas.

The School of Local Elected Officials continues to serve as a platform for dialogue, learning, and exchange of experience, supporting local public authorities in adapting to ongoing reforms and in implementing modern solutions tailored to the real needs of communities.
